The Scripps Partnership for Hazards and Environmental Applied Research (SPHEAR) is a global consortium of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, a major center for ocean and earth research that seeks to leverage Scripps science within the business community.[1]

Recently, the Scripps team served among the leadership of a Nobel Prize-winning intergovernmental panel on climate change.

History

Launched in 2008, the global consortium is geared to those in the private sector who link financial risk to weather, climate and natural catastrophes. SPHEAR’s mission is to bring corporate partners face to face with thought leaders across the research community to develop applications for weather forecasts, risk managers, investors and insurers.[2]
